Role and Purpose:

  • Keep alumni informed about activities, policies, concerns and plans for future development
  • Serve as Hillel at FSU Ambassadors to support and enrich the Jewish community on campus
  • Provides leadership for alumni fundraising efforts in support of Hillel’s goals
  • Takes a leadership role in welcoming new students and alumni to Hillel at FSU by hosting events nationwide
  • Represents Alumni interests on the Board of Directors and provides parents with a means to share observations or suggestions about Jewish life at FSU
  • Financially supports Hillel at FSU by giving to the Annual Fund and/or other philanthropic opportunities at Hillel at a leadership level of at least $180.
  • Maintains a close relationships between alumnin and Hillel at FSU

Membership:
Members of the Alumni Advisory Council will have a vested interest in the future of Hillel at FSU .

The Chairperson serves a one year term. Additionally, the Chairperson serves as Ex-Officio representative on the Hillel at FSU  Board of Directors which meets monthly in person or telephonically on the fourth Tuesday at 6:30pm.

The Executive Director serves as the Executive Secretary of the Advisory Council.

Member Selection:
Prospective members are identified by staff members, current members of the council, or by parents and alumni with an expressed interest in membership.

Members are selected on the basis of interest, ability to meet expectations, geographical representation and recommendations.

Member Expectations:

  • Participation in person or by phone in at least two meetings each academic year. (There are two impact phone calls for Alumni each semester, which count towards this as well).
  • Be active on at least one of the five standing committees (see diagram)
  • Participate in volunteer activities on and off campus when possible
  • Financially support Hillel at FSU at a leadership level of $180 per year or more

Meetings:
The Advisory Council will meet twice annually – Once in the fall and once in the spring semesters. Other volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year, both on and off campus.

BE PART OF THE JEWISH FACULTY GET-TOGETHERS. FALL 2017 IS BEING PLANNED NOW.

Each semester, members of FSU faculty get-together for a little fellowship and food. Use the comment form at the bottom of this page to let us know if you’d like to be included in our e-mail invitations. The next get-together will take place in Spring 2017 in late January or early February.

Meal costs are “rounded up” and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the student activities of Hillel at FSU.

Did you know that Ruby Diamond was Jewish and that she graduated from FSU in 1905? Have you seen the Torah scrolls in the FSU Special Collections?glasses

If you’re interested in Judaica and FSU, Hillel invites you to join the local Hillel Board and students on March 1, 2017 from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.
The program will be held at Strozier Library and will include a tour of Judaica items from FSU’s special collections and achival materials documenting Jewish Life at FSU.  
After the tour there will be refreshments and a chance to network with current Hillel students.

Join us at Hillel for lunch on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 11:30am-1:30pm. There will be a brief program about 12:30, but the goal is just an enjoyable get-together. Cafe Yerushalmi is our Israeli lunch cafe — and it’s kosher It’s open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week for lunch.
